Les Petits Diables, ( The Little Devils ) tells the story of two kids with superpowers, who gets bored when they are left alone at home. In typical kids rivalry they spread chaos around them. The project is inspired by Japanese animation for the movement and American comics for the visual style.
During the Covid confinement I had to figure out a way to keep my kids entertained so I decided to make a short film with them. I wanted to create something dynamic that would be inspired by what my kids love, Japanese animation and comic books. I must admit I also grew up with the same influences so it was a chance to experiment. I managed to include some elements from my personal favorites comic book artists such as Jack Kirby, Alex Ross and Dan Brereton.
The project is based on Pixilated, a variant of stop-motion with multiple post-process achieved with an Artificial Intelligence app named Prisma. I wanted to get a personalized look so I decided to mix and blend up to 5 different process composited together in Nuke. Images that required visual effects were then painted in Photoshop. It was a slow and arduous process, but my kids and I had a blast doing it.
